The adventure continues at Laguna San Rafael, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, where ancient glaciers calve blocks of ice before your eyes in one of the most pristine destinations in South America.

Daily breakdown 

Day 1 Kayaking to the Marble Caves on General Carrera Lakea. Meeting with the 100% Patagonia Slow Travel staff. Transfer in a private van from Villa Cerro Castillo to the town of Puerto Sánchez to do the kayaking towards the Marble Caves in General Carrera Lake.  Descent and tour of a marble cave. This activity, led by a specialized guide, lasts 3 hours and is of low difficulty. Transfer to Puerto Murta for lunch featuring local products, and overnight stay in Puerto Río Tranquilo in an Apart Hotel or Cabin.

*** The activity is subject to weather conditions and is authorized by the Maritime Governorate.

 

Day 2  Navigation to Laguna San Rafael National Park. Breakfast, transfer from Puerto Tranquilo by land to the Bahía Exploradores area to begin the boat trip to Laguna San Rafael National Park. Includes snack, lunch, a toast with ancient ice, and afternoon coffee service. Return by boat to Bahía Exploradores, then return by land to Puerto Tranquilo. Time to rest and overnight stay in an Apart Hotel or Cabin.

 

Day 3  Transfer to Balmaceda Airport. Breakfast and check-out. Van transfer service from Puerto Río Tranquilo to Balmaceda Airport.

Clothing recommendations

Regardless of the time of year, in Coyhaique and the Carretera Austral you can experience all four seasons in one day, so we suggest:

 

  • Dress in layers, polypropylene or quick-drying top
  • Warm fleece
  • Parka
  • Water-repellent trousers and windbreaker
  • Neck, head and hand protection (buff, gloves, cap / jockey cap)
  • Sunglasses
  • Water bottle
  • Sunscreen
  • Outdoor boots with a high shaft and warm socks
  • Small backpack with extra clothes
